Viberzi

This medication is warranted when the patient exhibits severe signs of pain and chronic diarrhea. Its anti-inflammatory properties ease the symptoms of IBS and are often prescribed for patients without any other significant health issues.

Xifaxan

This powerful antibiotic reduces the levels of intestinal bacteria that cause the symptoms of IBS. The patients are administered the drug over a period of 10-14 days. The symptoms are significantly decreased. The medication may be occasionally prescribed, but it is not recommended for any extended use.

Medications That Help Relieve IBS

Metamucil

This over-the-counter medication is prescribed as a fiber supplement to ease the symptoms of constipation. Metamucil contains psyllium that improves the bowel movement and intestinal flora.

Kaopectate

Caution should be exercised when using any anti-diarrheal remedies. The instructions should be closely followed. Although the initial administration of Kaopectate can prove to be helpful, any prolonged use may lead to the worsening of the symptoms.
