Types of Liposuction

Types of Liposuction

Liposuction is a procedure that involves the removal of fat that has proved to be resistant to exercise and diet. The procedure involves sucking out of fat from specific areas through the use of thin tubes known as cannulas which are inserted into particular parts of the body. These tubes dislodge fat cells and then suction them out.

This cosmetic procedure can be done in different parts of the body. A person can have it done on the waist and abdomen, buttocks, thighs, hips, cheeks, neck, and chin. When taking the procedure, it is important to know that it is not intended for weight loss, reduction of sagging skin or cellulite but for improving the body contour.

The results of a well carried out procedure are long-lasting and can be easily noticed. By looking at liposuction before after pictures which people post, a person can easily see a huge difference. It usually works best where the person taking the procedure has normal weight and if it is done in places with a tight skin.

Patients undergoing the procedure can be confident that their body shape will be fully improved. The technique is so effective that various cosmetic surgeons use the technique to refine the outcome of other procedures. There is no other known technique that produces such thorough improvements in a person’s body shape.

The different types of liposuction

Liposuction doctors today have a variety of liposuction options to choose from. What differentiates one type from the other is the type of technology used to remove the fat. The different types have different benefits and the patient and the cosmetic surgeon can come to an agreement on the technique to use. The patient can also look at the liposuction photos of each technique before making their decision.

Some of the types of liposuction include:

Tumescent Lipo

For this technique, the surgeon injects an aesthetic solution (tumescent) and a drug for capillary shrinking into the area being treated. The anesthetic and the drug reduce discomfort and bleeding when the procedure is being carried out. After that, the fat is suctioned out. The area where the procedure is done is usually firm and swollen during treatment, thus, the name tumescent which means describes a firm and swollen area. This technique is preferred by many since there is less pain, minimal bleeding and a shorter recovery period.

Slim Lipo

In this technique, the procedure is combined with laser treatment. The laser targets fat cells leaving the muscle and nerve tissue protected. Wavelengths are used to melt the fat and the skin will be tighter after the treatment as a result of the heat. The incisions here are smaller leading to minimal scarring.

Vaser Lipo

Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance, otherwise known as ultrasound, uses ultrasonic waves in the breakdown of the fat that is located beneath the skin. The fat turns into a liquid which will then be sucked out.

Water Jet Lipo

This one uses water pressure to drive out the unwanted fat. A stream of fluid with high pressure is used to infuse the fat deposits in the skin, after which, the fat is gently removed. It uses less force and therefore facilitates fast healing.

Always remember that the outcome of the procedure is largely determined by the expertise of the cosmetic surgeon and it is, therefore, important to ensure that the surgeon has the required skills and qualities.
